Are you wondering which are the best Youtube channels to improve your French? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one! It’s one of the most common subjects among language learners. After giving you 5 songs to improve your French, it’s time to talk about Youtube. As a language learner myself, I’ve learned a tons of words thanks to Youtube. I watched contents I had interest in (e.g. photography and travel) to learn more about it and know how to talk about it in other languages. If you want to learn French through your hobbies and especially with art, you are going to love my selection!
Karambolage
Understand French culture and its specificities
Karambolage was created by Arte a French and German media. Through this series of videos, you can learn about cultural references from France, Germany and Spain. These video are great no matter what level you are (beginners might be struggling with new vocabulary). In the most recent ones, you are able to activate subtitles. Here is an example of their videos with the story of the most French symbol : la baguette. I also suggest you to watch this episode about having an accent in French.
France Culture
Understand the relation between art and news
If you are curious and want to have a better understanding of culture and the world, France Culture is for you! It’s a French public radio dedicated to art and science. On Youtube, they offer short and long videos to explain you how culture and actuality are related to each other. I won’t recommend this channel for beginners though. Even if there are subtitles. It’s totally suitable for B2 (and above) students who want to overcome the plateau level. Here is an example with the future of dubbing fighting against AI.
Natacha Birds
An ode to everyday beauty
She’s one of my favorite content creators! She doesn’t post Youtube videos anymore (that’s a shame!) but I still suggest you to dive into her poetic world. Natacha Birds is a multidisciplinary artist : she does photography, painting, ceramic, and she even writes. Her videos are an ode to the everyday beauty. As an example, here is a really poetic vlog about her family trip in Nevada.
Le coin d’Élodie
Discover the creative process of a French artist
If you are an artist, you are going to love Elodie’s studio vlogs. She takes us on her creative journey and show us backstage of their business. It’s really interesting and motivating. Few years ago, she created her own brand with handmade creations. She is also passionate about modern art and architecture. If you enjoy these subjects, you’re going to love her.
Samuel on Courts Toujours
An animated short series bringing nostalgia
This recommendation is a bit different than the others because I recommend a specific series on the channel Courts Toujours. This channel created by Arte (like Karambolage) offers short films and series. One of them has been a huge success since its released. It tells the story of Samuel, a young boy (he’s about 11 years old) trying to understand adults, first love, friendship and youth. The film direction, the drawings and the voices are made by only one person : Émilie Tronche. How impressive is that?!
